Marcus Harness

Derby County’s attacking options were bolstered by the signing of Marcus Harness from Ipswich Town on Transfer Deadline Day in August 2024.

Harness linked up with Paul Warne’s squad on a season-long loan from the Premier League side.

Capable of playing on either flank or in an attacking midfield role, Harness had featured in all three of the Tractor Boys’ fixtures in the 2024/25 season before joining the Rams, including substitute appearances against Liverpool and Manchester City in the top-flight.

Harness spent time in the youth set-up at Coventry City as a youngster before making the switch to Burton Albion, where he made his professional debut in September 2013.

After loan spells at Ilkeston Town, Aldershot Town and Port Vale, he enjoyed his most impressive year at the Pirelli Stadium during the 2018/19 season, making 39 appearances and recording a combined 12 goals and assists in all competitions.

He left the Brewers with 83 appearances and six goals to his name, as well as contributing to their promotions from League Two in 2014/15 and League One in 2015/16.

His form attracted the attention of Portsmouth and he checked in at Fratton Park in the summer of 2019, scoring nine goals in all competitions during his first campaign.

Kenny Jackett’s side fell at the semi-final stage of the play-offs that year, but Harness bounced back by reaching double-figures for goals in each of the next two seasons.

His 10 goals in 2020/21 were followed by 12 during 2021/22 as he continued to display his quality, ending with 134 appearances for Pompey during his three seasons at the club alongside 31 goals.

Harness then made the move to Ipswich Town and he made an immediate impact by winning the club’s August Player of the Month award after scoring five goals in just seven games early in the 2022/23 season.

He ended with eight goals in all competitions as Kieran McKenna’s Tractor Boys finished second in League One to earn promotion to the Championship.

They continued their momentum to reach the Premier League in 2023/24, with Harness appearing 34 times in the second tier as Ipswich finished in the top two once again.

Harness arrived at Derby with 349 games in club football and 52 goals to his name.
