Biography

Derby County completed the signing of Norwegian striker Lars-Jorgen Salvesen in January 2025.

He arrived at Pride Park Stadium from Viking FK for an undisclosed fee on a two-and-a-half year contract.

Salvesen became the club's first signing of the January transfer window to add another option in forward areas during the second half of the 2024/25 season and beyond.

He top-scored for his homeland club with 17 goals in all competitions during their most recent 2024 campaign, which concluded with a third-place Eliteserien finish and qualification for the UEFA Conference League second qualifying round in December.

Salvesen was born in the Norwegian city of Kristiansand and began his career with FK Vigør in 2013, where a short, prolific spell in the third tier earned him a move to top division side IK Start the following year.

The centre-forward spent four years at the club before switching to Ullensaker/Kisa IL in 2018 and Sarpsborg 08 in 2019.

From there he went on to settle at Strømsgodset, where he impressed over a four-season spell from 2019 until 2022, scoring 24 goals and recording 11 assists in a total of 62 appearances in all competitions.

His form attracted the attention of European competition regulars FK Bodø/Glimt and Salvesen made his continental bow in August 2022, marking his debut with a goal against FK Žalgiris Vilnius in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.

Appearances in the Europa League and Conference League followed, including home and away against Arsenal in October 2022.

He made the switch to Viking in March 2023 and went on to score 29 goals and record eight assists in 65 appearances to help the club secure back-to-back top-four finishes for the first time since 2002.

Salvesen and Viking followed up a fourth-place finish in 2023 by securing third in 2024 and a return to European football after two years.

In addition to his club career, Salvesen has been capped three times for Norway at Under-19 level.
