Right-sided defender Kane Wilson became Derby County’s seventh signing of the 2023 summer transfer window when he put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal.
The tricky wing-back joined the Rams with a point to prove after a frustrating sole season at Championship side Bristol City.
His career started at local side West Bromwich Albion. He was with the Baggies for over a decade, making his competitive debut for the club as a 16-year-old in the EFL Cup.
During his time contracted with Albion, he had numerous loan spells in the lower leagues with Exeter City on two occasions, Walsall and Tranmere Rovers respectively.
In 2020, his 13-year stay with West Brom came to an end when he signed for Forest Green Rovers on a permanent deal.
After a promising first season, he stepped up another level in his second and was a huge part in Rovers’ eventual promotion thanks to his three goals and 14 assists in 48 appearances.
He landed multiple accolades as Forest Green won the Sky Bet League Two title including being named the League Two Player of the Season at the 2022 EFL Awards and being named in the 2021/22 Sky Bet League Two Team of the Season.
His performances earned him a move to Championship outfit Bristol City whom he made seven appearances for, scoring once and providing one assist in 2022/23.
Wilson was utilised as a full-back, wing-back and winger during his first season with the Rams, showing his versatility as a player. He played 49 times in all competitions, finding the net three times and providing six assists.
Most notably during his debut season, Wilson scored the winning goal in the crucial top of the table clash with Bolton Wanderers whilst also providing an assist for Max Bird on the final day of the campaign as the Rams secured promotion to the Sky Bet Championship with a 2-0 home win over Carlisle United.
Wilson has been capped at England Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 level.
