Andy Warrington was named as the First Team Goalkeeper Coach at Derby County on 22nd September 2022.
He made the move to the Rams from Rotherham United, following new Head Coach Paul Warne, Assistant Head Coach Richie Barker and First Team Coach Matt Hamshaw to the club.
Born 10th June 1976 in Sheffield, Warrington enjoyed a long successful career in the EFL as a goalkeeper before turning his attention to coaching following retirement.
He made nearly 500 appearances in his career with the majority of those coming with Rotherham United, as well as Doncaster Rovers in League One and League Two.
Warrington spent the majority of his years in Yorkshire, initially starting out with York City where he remained for five years between 1994 and 1999 before a move to Doncaster Rovers where he stayed for eight years, until 2007, making 216 appearances. During this time with Rovers, he helped them to back-to-back promotions from the National League to League One.
There was a short stint at Bury following that, before a long spell at Rotherham in 2007.
He made 233 appearances for the Millers across a six-year spell, most memorably helping them to automatic promotion to League One in 2013.
He retired from the professional game with 549 appearances to his name.
Warrington began earning his coaching badges upon leaving Rotherham in 2013 and did so whilst continuing playing for a short while with Buxton and then latterly Grimsby Town.
He took up the role of full-time goalkeeping coach with the Mariners in 2015 and did so whilst also providing back-up for their first-choice goalkeeper at the time. He made one league appearance and one EFL Trophy appearance during that time.
After three years with Grimsby, during which time they gained promotion back to the EFL via the Play-Offs in 2016, he moved on to Lincoln City in 2018. During his one season with the Imps, he faced a short period as caretaker manager before he resumed his duties as first team goalkeeping coach.
In December 2019, he returned to the place he spent so much of his career at in Rotherham to coach the goalkeepers as part of Warne’s backroom team.
After working under Warne for the last three years at the New York Stadium, Warrington will now follow him to Pride Park Stadium to take up the role of First Team Goalkeeper Coach.
He played a vital role on the coaching staff in the 2023/24 season as Derby secured automatic
promotion from League One back to the Championship and goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith claimed the division's Golden Glove after seeing the side keep 22 clean sheets in league action.
