Derby County Women Under-21s are gearing up for a shot at silverware against AFC Bournemouth in the FA Women’s National League Reserve Cup Final on Saturday 12th April at St George’s Park (12pm kick-off).

The Young Ewes have had a run full of highs on their way to the Final, winning on penalties in the First Round against Stockport County and beating Doncaster Rovers Belles 9-0 to secure a spot in the Quarter-Final, which they won 6-2 against Liverpool Feds before travelling to Ipswich Town where they triumphed 3-2 to book their place in the Final.

Alex Walker, the Under-21s' Professional Development Phase Lead Coach, spoke to RamsTV ahead of Saturday’s match and he said: The girls have worked extremely hard to get themselves into the Final, and we're really proud of them as staff and it's just brilliant that they're able to have that showpiece game to look forward to."

Opponents Bournemouth currently sit top of the FA Women’s National League Reserve League, which means they will look to pose a tough challenge for the Ewes.

“As a club, our biggest success is progressing players into the first-team environment, and we've had some good success from that this season,” Walker admitted.

“We've always maintained as staff that if you get the environment and the culture right with regards to player development, winning will become a by-product of that, and to have the Cup Final to look forward to is only a positive thing.

“We've had the news recently as well that it's going to be on the show pitch at St George's Park, which is even better for the girls.”
