Derby County Under-21s bowed out of the Derbyshire Senior Cup at the Semi-Final stage following a 3-1 loss against Buxton on Tuesday night at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium.
Jake Buxton’s side secured their place in the last four of the competition and a tie against the Bucks with a 2-1 win over Long Eaton United back in January.
Buxton struck first in the game when Bobby Faulkner latched onto Luke Brennan’s free-kick from deep to give the hosts the lead in the ninth minute.
After a competitive end to the half the Rams fought to level the game but were held off by the hosts, who went into the break with a one goal advantage.
After pushing into the second half, Derby got their equaliser through substitute Israel Green in the 70th minute.
But Faulkner netted his second nine minutes later to reclaim Buxton’s advantage before an 88th minute strike from Oliver Ewing secured the Bucks’ place in the Final.
The Under-21s will return to action in The Central League on Tuesday 11th March when they head to the BW Davies Training Ground for their clash with Bolton Wanderers Under-21s (1pm kick-off).
The Rams’ next Premier League 2 fixture will see them head to the bet365 Stadium to play Stoke City Under-21s in the Potteries on Friday 14th March (7pm kick-off).
