Defender Craig Forsyth admitted that Derby County were made to pay for missed opportunities and goals conceded as they fell to a 4-2 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

A back-and-forth contest was decided by the ruthless finishing of the hosts, as Barry Bannan’s first-half strike gave Wednesday the advantage and two quickfire goals on the hour mark, with a Josh Windass’ strike from the halfway line and a cool Djedi Gassama finish seeing the game go to 3-0.

Jerry Yates netted minutes later but signs of a comeback were quelled as Antony Musaba scored Wednesday’s fourth goal and made Ebou Adams’ late strike count for nothing at Hillsborough.

Forsyth spoke to RamsTV following the defeat in Sheffield for Paul Warne's side.

On suffering defeat to Sheffield Wednesday…

Ultimately, it's disappointing. We can't come away from home and let in four goals, especially conceding inside the opening ten minutes. It put us in a really difficult position where we had to come out, but we created enough chances to be in it and maybe even win the game. However, the goals we conceded today are not good enough.

On having chances in the game…

There was a spell of maybe five or six corners in the first half where we nearly scored from every one, but it's times like that when you've got the momentum that you need to take the chance. We've spoken before about being more clinical and today in both boxes we weren't clinical enough - and that's what's cost us.

On taking learnings from the game…

I think we can see we needed to manage the game slightly better. Obviously, the aim is to not concede at all but it's then the reaction after that to be able to settle back down and have a bit of composure and play our way back into it. We've got another game coming up in a few days at Bristol City, so it's important that we get the loss out of our system and are ready to go again.
