Midfielder Ben Osborn admitted that Derby County were made to rue ‘switching off' in their loss at Cardiff City after a dominant first-half performance in South Wales.
Callum Robinson and Anwar El Ghazi bagged two goals in as many minutes after Derby's dominance in the first half didn’t lead to a goal.
Striker Lars-Jørgen Salvesen netted to narrow the gap with 20 minutes left to play but the Rams were held back by Cardiff, who took maximum points in a 2-1 win.
Osborn caught up with RamsTV after the game at the Cardiff City Stadium.
On a 2-1 loss against Cardiff City…
In the first half, I thought we played out a solid away performance and it felt like we were the only team going to score. But in the second half, they had a little bit more but still, they weren't causing us any problems. I fancied us to go on and get a goal.
I think they've scored with their first or second shot on target and then that's hit us, and we've switched off with too much stress and conceded straight away through silly mistakes. We shot ourselves in the foot because if we'd kept it at 1-0, you would have fancied us to get something from the game. The big thing for us at the moment is just that we can't take the lead and get a platform to hold on to.
On needing a more robust reaction after falling a goal behind…
I think it shocked us a bit when they scored and when you're on the run that we're on, we cannot let that affect us and we've just got to keep going, sticking to the plan and then believe that we'll get something from the game. Conceding too early after the first is where we've lost the game today.
On next Saturday’s home clash with Sheffield United…
We'll debrief this game and see what we can learn from it, then all eyes will be on the Sheffield United game. We've produced some really good performances at home, we're going to need the fans and everyone behind us as well as a real team effort to get that result that gives us the confidence to go on a bit of a run and I do believe it'll come. It's a big game between two massive clubs in the Championship. We've got to give it a right go, take the game to Sheffield United and hopefully try and get a result.
