Lars-Jorgen Salvesen has expressed his delight at achieving a ‘dream move’ after signing for Derby County on a permanent deal.

Salvesen has joined the Rams from Norwegian top-flight side Viking FK on a two-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old frontman has made over 200 appearances in the Eliteserien for six different clubs in his 14-year senior career. Last season Salvesen scored 17 goals in all competitions as Viking finished third in the division.

Salvesen spoke to RamsTVforhis first interview since making the move to Derby.

On joining Derby County…

I'm very happy. Every kid in Norway dreams about coming to England and playing. Derby is a massive club, a big historical club. So, it's a dream come true for me.

On thoughts of moving to England…

You're always dreaming, you're always aiming high, training and playing to achieve your dreams. Of course, I was hoping a move to England may happen, but you never know in football. I've played for many years, so you're not sure what the future brings. I'm just happy Derby wanted me, and I can't wait to get started.

On first hearing of the move…

It's been some weeks in the making. There's been chats back and forth between the clubs. I've just been patient and also always expressed what I wanted. And luckily the clubs agreed and now I'm here. Paul Warne has been great with me. He's a great character. I love him already because he's a person that sees the human side. He loves that side of people, and I had a great chat with him and got a really good impression. I can't wait to work with him.

On his role within the squad...

We spoke about the playing and how I fit in well with the style Derby want to play. There are a lot of crosses, you get runs on the sides and the ball into the box. That's my position. I can be in the box in front of the goal and hopefully there to get the ball into the net. As a person, I'm a team player. I always work hard for the team. I will always put the team first. I put 100% in everything I do. I have a good left foot, a good shot and I'm decent with my head. Hopefully I will get crosses into me, and I will try to do the rest.

On seeing Pride Park for the first time…

I'm so excited. I drove past it on my first day here I was here and just saw it from outside. We're going to see it inside soon and I can't wait to see it. It's a big day for me and my family and my girlfriend as well. Like I said in the beginning, this is a dream come true and I can't wait to get started and work hard.
