We look at what events are coming up during the month of January for the Men’s first team, the Under-21s and Under-18s at Academy level, the Women’s first team, club events, community campaigns, and birthdays across Derby County.

December saw Paul Warne’s Rams side play seven Sky Bet Championship games in a packed fixture schedule that included a 4-0 triumph over Portsmouth and a 2-1 Boxing Day victory over West Bromwich Albion at Pride Park Stadium.

Jake Buxton’s Under-21s side secured their place in the Quarter-Final of the Derbyshire FA Senior Cup after a 3-1 win over Heanor Town at the end of the month. And the Under-18s tasted victory at Pride Park as they netted four against Sunderland in a dominating FA Youth Cup First Round tie.

January brings in the new year, with 20 games lined up across the Men’s first team, Under-21s, Under-18s and Women’s first team.


Wednesday 1st January – Hamshaw’s birthday!

Men’s First Team Assistant Coach Matt Hamshaw will celebrate his birthday on New Year’s Day.

Wednesday 1st January - Men’s First Team Vs Sheffield Wednesday (A) 3pm

New Year’s Day will see the Rams take a trip to Hillsborough to play against the Owls exactly a month after the sides met at Pride Park Stadium in the Championship.

Friday 3rd January – Tinsley’s birthday!

Derby County Women’s left-back Megan Tinsley will celebrate her 27th birthday.


Saturday 4th January - Men’s First Team Vs Bristol City (A) 3pm

The Rams will head on their second Championship away trip of the month when they go head-to-head with the Robins at Ashton Gate in Championship action.


Sunday 5th January - Women’s First Team Vs West Brom (A) 2pm

Derby Women will kick off their 2025 with an away tie against West Bromwich Albion in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division. The Ewes came out as 2-1 winners in the home tie back in September.

Tuesday 7th January – Under-21s Vs Woking (A) 7pm

Jake Buxton’s Young Rams will return to action in the National League Cup as they line-up against Woking at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.


Friday 9th January – Under-21s Vs Tottenham Hotspur (H) 7pm

The Under-21s will play their first home fixture of 2025 when they welcome Spurs Under-21s for Premier League 2 action at the Proctor Cars Stadium.


Saturday 11th January – Under-18s Vs Sunderland (H) 1pm

After securing victory over Sunderland in the FA Youth Cup in December, the young Black Cats will be Danny Maye’s Under-18s side’s first opponents of 2025 as they go head-to-head in the U18 Premier League Cup at Moor Farm.


Saturday 11th January - Men’s First Team Vs Leyton Orient (A) 8pm

Derby will be backed by a sold-out away end for Emirates FA Cup Third Round action in the nation’s capital at the Gaughan Group Stadium.


Sunday 12th January - Women’s First Team Vs Halifax (H) 2pm

Tuesday 14th January – Under-21s Vs Bolton Wanderers (A) 1pm

Bolton Wanderers will be the Rams Under-21s’ opponents in the Central League Cup. Jake Buxton’s side will be looking to continue where they left off in the competition having started off their Central League campaign with a 5-0 shellacking of Wrexham Reserves in September.


Wednesday 15th January – Adams’ birthday!

The Rams’ midfield stalwart will celebrate his 29th birthday. Adams started January with 23 appearances and four goals for the Rams in the Championship this season.

Thursday 16th January – Under-18s Vs Sheffield United (A) 7pm

Following last month’s emphatic win over Sunderland at Pride Park Stadium, the Under-18s will play Sheffield United Under-18s in the Fourth Round of the FA Youth Cup at the LNER Stadium.


Friday 17th January – Dalton’s birthday!

The Ewes’ Paris Dalton will turn 24-years-old. The Derby-born midfielder has made 15 appearances for Sam Griffiths’ side since joining over the summer.

Friday 17th January – Under-21s Vs Reading (A) 7pm

Back-to-back away fixtures for the Young Rams will see them head to Aldershot Town’s ground to face Reading in Premier League 2.

Saturday 18th January – Under-18s Vs Manchester United (A) 12pm

Danny Maye’s Under-18s will head to Carrington Training Complex for their U18 Premier League fixture against the Red Devils.


Saturday 18th January - Men’s First Team Vs Watford (H) 3pm

Paul Warne’s side will return to Championship action for the visit of Watford to Pride Park. The Hornets came out on top in a feisty affair at Vicarage Road in August.

Monday 20th January – May’s birthday!

Ewes goalscoring midfielder Becky May will celebrate her 23rd birthday.


Tuesday 21st January - Men’s First Team Vs Sunderland (H) 7.45pm

The second of two back-to-back home games in the Championship, the Rams will host Sunderland under the lights in Derby.

Friday 24th January – Under-21s Vs Bournemouth (A) 7pm

The Under-21s will play their first Premier League Cup fixture of the new year when they square up against Bournemouth on Friday night. In September the Cherries came out on top as 3-2 winners in reverse fixture.

Saturday 25th January – Under-18s Vs Liverpool (A) 12pm

The Under-18s will head to Merseyside to face Liverpool in the U18 Premier League.


Saturday 25th January - Men’s First Team Vs Cardiff City (A) 3pm

The Rams will head back out on the road to face the Bluebirds in South Wales. Derby emerged victorious in a 1-0 win against the Welsh side in the reverse fixture at Pride Park back in September.


Sunday 26th January - Women’s First Team Vs Wolverhampton Wanderers (A) 2pm

The Ewes' final fixture of January will see them travel to New Bucks Head to face Wolves in the rescheduled FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division clash.


Monday 27th January – Elder’s birthday!

The Rams’ left-back Callum Elder will celebrate his 30th birthday. The Australian left-back came into January having registered his 40th appearance for the Rams since joining the club in the summer of 2023 ahead of last season’s promotion-winning campaign.

Monday 27th January - Under-21s Vs Blackburn Rovers (H) 7pm

The Proctor Cars Stadium will play host to Premier League 2 competition, with Blackburn Rovers taking on Jake Buxton’s Derby Under-21s.


Friday 31st January – Under-21s Vs Chelsea (A) 7pm

The Under-21s will head to Kings Meadow Stadium to face Chelsea in the Premier League Cup. The two sides have already met twice this season, once in the Cup and once in the league, with honours even between the sides. The Rams were victorious in the PL Cup in a dramatic 4-3 result.
