Centre-back Nat Phillips says Derby County will have to put in a 'brave performance' in order to get a positive result when they face Burnley on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off).

Derby fell to a 2-0 defeat against Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday and will be looking to bounce back when they head to third-placed Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday night.

Liverpool loanee Phillips has appeared 12 times for Derby since arriving at the end of August.

The 27-year-old sat down with RamsTVto lookahead to the Championship clash at Turf Moor under the floodlights.

On falling to defeat against Leeds United on Saturday…

We went there with a game plan. We knew it was going to be a tough game, and we knew they were going to dominate most of the possession. The idea was to stay resolute in defence and try to hit them on the break. Unfortunately, the goal just before half-time changed the game. It was a frustrating afternoon for us.

Once you know that that's the case, I think it's important that the whole team is on the same wavelength and everyone executes the job as planned and follows the instructions that have been given to us. Unfortunately for us, the goals changed it and then we had to go after the game a bit more.

On taking lessons from Elland Road into the clash with Burnley on Tuesday…

We want to win every game - and there are different ways to win. With Leeds, there are not many teams that have gone there and got a result this year. We were aware of that and we were trying to push the game in the best way that we could to get a result. The idea was to try and have answers for what they threw at us in our defensive actions and try and catch them out on the break with our speed up top.

There were spells in the Leeds game where I think, when we were a bit braver in possession, we showed that we can keep the ball and move it quite well. We've got the ability in the squad to do that. If we can try and take those moments into the Burnley fixture and take confidence from those moments, maybe try and hold on to the ball a bit longer and not be as much of a rush to go forward, then that's maybe something we can take forward.

On how the division is shaping up…

There’s not a huge gap between the teams. I think it gets said every year, but the Championship is always so tight and anyone can beat anyone. We're aware of that as a squad and that's why we go into every fixture believing that we can take points and get good result. It's a busy period now. Sometimes this period can define how the back end of the season is going to look or certainly shape how it's going to look. It's important that we try and get as many good results as possible.
