Liam Thompson admitted Derby County needed more moments of quality against a strong Leeds United side as they tasted a 2-0 defeat in the Sky Bet Championship on the road on Saturday afternoon.

The midfielder played 65 minutes as the Rams put in a strong defensive display but fell to a 2-0 win against Leeds, who claimed top spot in the division.

Thompson spoke to RamsTVto discuss the result against the Championship leaders.

On falling to defeat at Elland Road…

The lads are all disappointed, but I think the first half sort of killed us a little bit. To concede the goals how we did is unlike us. There was a bit of a mountain to climb after that, but I think we showed more courage in the second half by getting on the ball and making things happen and made it harder for them.

On seeing some positives in the second half…

We showed glimpses of quality in the first half but not enough, and then in the second half we had a bit more. We’ll have to take that into the next game, which is another tough one at Burnley but we know when we do show that confidence on the ball, we can pull teams open. It's just that final ball that we need to work on. It's a tough place to come to and there's positives to take, but we are disappointed with the result.

On bouncing back with another tough game against Burnley on Tuesday night…

We know what type of game it will be; we know it will be tough but we know we've got more than enough in the changing room to go and get a result. We know it's a hard run, but these are the games we want to be playing in. Of course it's a challenge, but we know we've got enough to go and get something.
