Derby County Under-21s secured qualification to the Quarter-Final stage of the Derbyshire FA Senior Cup with a 3-1 win at Heanor Town on Monday night.

The cup clash was played at the second attempt after a waterlogged pitch forced the initial tie to be abandoned just before Christmas.

Striker Emmanuel Ilesanmi opened the scoring in the ninth minute in Heanor for the Rams.

Jake Buxton’s side came close to doubling their lead two minutes later as Lennon Wheeldon struck wide and Owen Eames had his effort saved by Heanor's former Derby goalkeeper Alfie Roberts.

The hosts levelled in the 24th minute as Sacha Markelic struck from inside the penalty area to send the game into the half-time break at 1-1.

The Rams started the second period in ruthless fashion with Johnson Osong netting in the 47th minute.

A neat passing move saw Wheeldon in position to strike in the 68th minute but Roberts was aive to the danger and got down well to save.

Jaydan Davidson secured Derby’s place in the next round of the competition as he put the match to bed in the 89th minute.

The win means Buxton's side will take on Long Eaton United to battle it out for a place in the Semi-Finals.

The Under-21 are back in action in the new year when they go head-to-head with Woking on Tuesday 7th January in their last outing in the group stages of the National League Cup (7pm kick-off).
