Head Coach Paul Warne says a hard-earned point on the road against Preston North End can give Derby County momentum ahead of back-to-back home games in the Sky Bet Championship.
Jerry Yates’ headed goal in the 29th minute - his fourth of the season - earned the point for Derby, as it cancelled out Sam Greenwood’s goal for the hosts to see the game finish 1-1.
Derby now look ahead to two home games on the bounce with the visit of Swansea City to Pride Park Stadium on Wednesday 27th November (8pm kick-off) and Sheffield Wednesday four days later on Sunday 1st December (3pm kick-off).
Warne spoke to RamsTV after his side added another point to their season's tally at Deepdale.
On sharing the points with a draw against Preston…
You always want to come away with more. I don't feel like it's two points dropped, but it was a good opportunity. In the crucial moments, with the final pass or the final cross, we just weren't as sharp as we needed to be to win.
I always try and say it as I see it, but we were the team that looked like they were going to win it in the second half. We came here to try and win against a really good Championship squad in Preston.
On fighting back from behind to get the point…
It felt like it was going to be one of those days where it is down the set pieces. If you look throughout the league, probably the weather has affected a lot of the games. All of them seemed like draws with a couple of exceptions. We have a point away from home ahead of back-to-back home matches and if we could pull six points out of the bag, then it would be an amazing week.
On Jerry Yates’ form as he scored the equaliser…
He is in great form, which makes it frustrating that he can't play in midweek (against parent club Swansea City). The free-kick was something we worked on, and it all counts on the delivery too. I'm pleased for Jerry - even more so to score at that end in front of the fans.
On returning to Pride Park for back-to-back home games…
It'll be nice to get home and get the fans behind us. You can see today, the lads give everything. You need a lot to go your way to win at this level, home or away.
