Jerry Yates says Derby County's squad are confident and up for the battle in the Sky Bet Championship after taking a hard-earned point away from home against Millwall on Saturday.

The Rams played out a 1-1 draw with the Lions as Yates netted his first goal for the club since joining on loan from fellow Championship sid Swansea City in the summer.

The striker caught up with RamsTV after the clash to discuss a battling performance and chalking up his first goal for Derby at The Den.

On earning a point at The Den…

It was a scrappy game, and we knew that coming into it. It’s a tough competitive place to come to. They are a big side, so we knew it could come down to set pieces and we worked on that in the week.

We needed to be more confident on the ball at times to be able to put the game to bed. We are very confident in ourselves, and we always stick together. We knew this was going to be a tough day at the office against Millwall and in the end for us, it feels like two points dropped.

On getting his first goal for the club…

I would rather have not scored and have come away winning 1-0. However, it is a nice feeling for myself and my family to score. The ultimate feeling is disappointment not to get all three points.

On midweek opponents Oxford United…

Oxford will be a different game but no matter the opposition, we’ll have to fight the fight and be ready to win our battles on the pitch to put in a good performance and get the result we want.
