Seven Derby County players from the Men's First Team and Academy were called up for international duty during the October fixture period.


The break began after the Rams secured a 2-0 win over Queens Park Rangers at Pride Park Stadium at the start of October. Ebou Adams, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Jacob Widell Zetterströmfeatured in the victory before heading off for international action.

Academy players Lennon Wheeldon, Dan Cox, Freddie Turley and Niall McAndrew also headed out to represent their respective nations at youth level.

Ebou Adams - Gambia

Midfielder Ebou Adamsmade his 20th appearance for his nation by featured twice in the Gambia’s double-header with Madagascar in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying.

Adams started both games for Johnathan McKinstry’s Scorpions side, as an equaliser deep into added from Brighton & Hove Albion winger Yankubah Minteh earned a 1-1 draw on Friday 11th October, while they kept a clean sheet and claimed a 1-0 win on Monday 14th October.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing - Guatemala

Forward Nathaniel Mendez-Laing was back in action for Guatemala in Group A of the CONCACAF Nations League A as they faced Guyana and Costa Rica.

Mendez-Laing proved pivotal and provided an assist as he played 65 minutes in a 3-1 win over Guyana on Saturday 12th October and played the full 90 minutes as Los Chapines fell to a 3-0 defeat against Costa Rica four days later.

Jacob Widell Zetterstrom - Sweden

The Rams’ number one Jacob Widell Zetterström was called up to his seventh Swedish international squad. The 26-year-old was amongst a goalkeeping group alongside Viktor Johansson (Stoke City) and Kristoffer Nordfeldt (AIK).

Zetterström was amongst the substitutes for Sweden’s UEFA Nations League fixtures against Slovakia (2-2 draw) and Estonia (3-0 win).

Dan Cox - Wales Under-19


Eighteen-year-old centre-back Dan Cox played the full 90 minutes in both of the young Cymru side’s double-header against Italy.

Cox captained the Welsh side in their first outing, as both sides netted twice to draw 2-2 on Thursday 10th October. He featured for the full 90 minutes when they came out on top of a dramatic 4-3 loss on Sunday 13th October.

He racked up his 10th appearance for the Under-19 squad and his 16th overall for his national team, since being called up for the Cymru Under-15s in May 2021.

Niall McAndrew & Freddie Turley - Republic of Ireland Under-19

Academy duo Niall McAndrew and Freddie Turleyboth featured and got on the scoresheet for Ireland’s Under-19s as they played three friendlies against Greece, Croatia and Mexico.

McAndrew netted in a 2-2 draw with Croatia on Saturday 12th October. Both of the Rams' young stars played in a 2-0 win over Mexico, with Turley opening the scoring and captaining the team - and McAndrew featuring off the bench in the second period - as they netted two without reply.

Lennon Wheeldon – England Under-19

Striker Lennon Wheeldon received his first international call-up and joined the England Under-19 squad for their trio of friendly matches in a Spanish training camp.

Wheeldon got 65 minutes for the Young Lions in a 2-1 defeat to Portugal and came on as a second-half substitute in a 4-1 win over the Netherlands. He got on the scoresheet for the first time for his nation in a 4-2 win over France.
