Four Derby County Academy players have been called up to represent their nations at youth level for the October international window.
The international fixture period, which runs from Monday 7th October to Tuesday 15th October, will see Dan Cox, Freddie Turley, Lennon Wheeldon and Niall McAndrew join up with their respective international teams.
Turley and McAndrew will link up with the Republic of Ireland Under-19 squad for their fixtures against Greece and Croatia.
Turley made the bench for the Rams’ 2-0 Sky Bet Championship home win against Queens Park Rangers after impressing in the Under-21s and in training since joining the club from Shamrock Rovers over the summer. He has registered four appearances for Jake Buxton’s Under-21s squad in Premier League 2 so far this term.
McAndrew became a scholar in the summer of 2023 and made over 30 appearances for the Under-18s before being brought into the fold with the Under-21s towards the end of the 2023/24 campaign. The attacker, who signed professional terms earlier this year, has made three appearances and scored one goal so far in Premier League 2 for the Under-21s.
Striker Wheeldon has been called up for the England Under-19 squad for their trio of friendly matches in Spain. The Young Lions will face Portugal, the Netherlands, and France for over a week at their Marbella training camp. The 18-year-old has scored three goals in as many games in the league for the Under-21s.
Cox will link up with the
Wales Under-19 side for two friendlies against Italy Under-19s on
Thursday 10th and Sunday 13th October. The defender has been part of
Cymru squads from Under-15 level and has made nine appearances for the
Under-19s since making his debut for the side in September 2023 and took
the captain’s armband for Chris Gunter’s side in their last friendly, a
3-0 win against Azerbaijan a month ago.
