Derby County Women attacker Kira Rai received the Women’s Player of the Year Award at the 2024 Asian Football Awards on Wednesday night.

The Ewes' winger has been a stalwart in Sam Griffiths’ squad since rising through the youth ranks at the club, making over a century of appearances and scoring 15 goals.

Rai’s work representing British South Asians in football has previously been recognised, as she picked up an award in parliament in December 2023 at the Sikh Network’s Guru Nanak Dev Ji Gurpurab (Birthday) Celebrations for her advocacy work and footballing achievements.

The Asian Football Awards took place at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday evening, with Heart of Midlothian player Yan Dhanda picking up the Men’s Player of the Year Award alongside Rai.

The Ewes' winger was nominated with Nottingham Forest’s Millie Chandarana and Greek league winger Aqsa Mushtaq also up for the award.

The annual event celebrates the contributions of British South Asians in the football industry. The winners are chosen by a judging panel, made up of past winners, those from media, football organisations and other South Asians in the game.

Derby County Women will be in action on home turf this weekend when they play Hashtag United in the FA Women's National League Cup First Round (2pm kick-off).
