Derby County Women’s winger Kira Rai has been nominated for the Women’s Player Award at the Asian Football Awards in London.

The event will take place at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday 25th September. The winners are chosen by a judging panel, made up of past winners, those from media, football organisations and other South Asians in the game.

Rai has made just over 100 appearances and scored 15 goals in the Ewes’ first team after spending her childhood playing for the club at youth level, having joined Derby as an Under-10s player. She has played five times so far this term and netted twice.

The 25-year-old has been nominated alongside Nottingham Forest’s Millie Chandarana and Greece-based former Lewes winger Aqsa Mushtaq.

Rai has received accolades in the past and received an award in parliament in December 2023 at the Sikh Network’s Guru Nanak Dev Ji Gurpurab (Birthday) Celebrations that recognised her advocacy and contribution to sport as a female South Asian in football.
