Derby County Under-21s' Ben Radcliffe has joined National League outfit Gateshead on loan.

The 20-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, has joined the non-league side on a loan deal that will run until January 2025.

Radcliffe has been part of Jake Buxton’s Under-21s squad over the opening stages of the season, competing in Premier League 2, Central League and Premier League Cup competitions.

The move will see Radcliffe gain more minutes in senior football and he has previous loan experience from his time on the books of Burton Albion, where he had spells with Mickleover FC and Banbury United.

Radcliffe joined the Rams' Under-21 ranks from the Brewers in the summer of 2023 and was a regular in Buxton’s side until he endured a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a long-term hamstring injury in late 2023, which limited him to seven appearances in Premier League 2.

He made one brief appearance off the bench for Paul Warne's senior side in a 2-0 home win over Lincoln City in the EFL Trophy last September. He was also an unused substitute in Sky Bet League One on three occasions.

Gateshead currently sit top of the National League after six games of the new season, under the stewardship of ex-Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot, who has been the Tynesiders’ manager since October 2023.
