Ryan Nyambe says the Derby County squad have the ‘spirit and determination’ to succeed in the Sky Bet Championship - but need to get the finer details right after promotion from League One last season.

The Rams have won two games from four so far in the 2024/25 campaign in all competitions and will look to get another on the board when they face League Two side Barrow away from home in Round Two of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night (7:45pm kick-off).

Nyambe signed a new contract with Derby over the summer after joining early on in last season’s promotion campaign and was instrumental in seeing the Rams return to the Championship.

Nyambe spoke to RamsTV ahead of the cup tie at Barrow on Tuesday night to discuss the Carabao Cup tie, adjusting to the Championship and competing for his place in the starting eleven.

On the result against Watford…

You want to come away with somethingyand unfortunately, we didn't come away with anything. I think maybe even a point would have been ideal against Watford, a very strong team. For us, it was disappointment at the end of the day.

On the levels of the squad after returning to the Championship…

The spirit and determination is there, obviously. You can see the quality is different to League One. The fight for us is there, the determination is there. It’s just that quality bit that we're lacking a bit at the minute, but it will come.

It's marginal, obviously, but those marginal things when it comes to a game, on a counter-attack per se, you've got to pick the perfect pass at the right moments and taking your chances. If you make mistakes, you get punished more severely in this league. There's a big difference, but it's marginal as well.

On wanting to progress to the next round of the Carabao Cup against Barrow…

We want to get a result and obviously give ourselves a confidence boost to keep us striding forward. It would also be nice to get a cup run in. It keeps everyone playing, keeps everyone fit. It will be good for the fans as well, to enjoy the football and watch us win games.
