Curtis Nelson admits Derby County's players need to find ways of being more ruthless to break down teams and get goals following their penalty shoot-out exit from the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Sky Bet League Two side Barrow progressed to Round Three of the competition after winning 3-2 in the shoot-out following a goalless draw at the SO Legal Stadium following a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes.

Nelson spoke to RamsTV after elimination from the Carabao Cup to discuss learning from a disappointing result and the side needing to find their edge in attack.

On elimination from the Carabao Cup…

We are disappointed and there is room to improve. Moving forward into Saturday against Bristol City, there are things we need to work on and there are things that we can do differently to try and break teams down to get the goals that we need to win games in 90 minutes.

On learning from the game and getting a result against Bristol City…

There’s nothing we can do about this result now but learn from it. We’ll watch it back over the week and start preparing for Saturday against Bristol City and move forward.

The home crowd always helps, they were great for us against Middlesbrough two weeks ago and they’ll be a help again. Going into the international break with a win is going to be key to allowing us to go into the next block of games feeling positive.
