Kane Wilson says the Derby County players are keeping spirits high at their pre-season training camp as Paul Warne and his staff are putting the squad through their paces.

The Rams’ full-back has been enjoying challenging training sessions in the heat as the squad familiarise themselves with the Spanish climate.

New signings Ben Osborn, Kayden Jackson, Jerry Yates and Kenzo Goudmijn are finding their way into the squad after arriving this summer, with Wilson picking out the new signings for praise.

He is also glad to have come out on top in the pre-season fitness tests so far as he looks to hit the ground running in the Sky Bet Championship in the 2024/25 season.

Wilson spoke to RamsTV after back-to-back sessions in the heat to start the training camp in Alicante.

On the squad gelling together…

It’s been good and a tough first day, as you can probably imagine. We’ve had good comradery; we are getting to know each other and getting the new lads settled in. It’s enjoyable. It’s been exactly what the gaffer has been pushing for; embedding everyone in, with the lads who were here last season and the year before integrating the new boys in. They have been great; they’ve taken to the group really well. As you can tell it made us a bit tired as it’s been hard, but it is good for us.

On training in the heat…

I still haven’t worked it out yet! I’m having a go, but it is hard because the pitches are different too, so we just must acclimatise. But it has been enjoyable, and it burns a few extra calories, so everyone’s happy!

On being tested by the coaching staff…

There’s a little bit of nerves, but they (the coaching staff) seem to buzz off it which, for me, a little bit weird! Joking aside, we know it has got to be done. I feel I am more part of the senior members of the squad now after being here a year. We try to smile, and we have to laugh, I’m trying to enjoy it and becoming more of a new leader.
