Derby County’s sixth summer signing David Ozoh says he’s ready to show ‘passion and hunger’ after signing on loan from Crystal Palace.
Ozoh, who made nine Premier League appearances for the Eagles last season, is looking to add more midfield muscle to Paul Warne’s Rams ahead of the 2024/25 Sky Bet Championship season.
After signing on the dotted line on a season-long loan deal, Ozoh sat down with RamsTV at Moor Farm Training Ground to discuss his ambitions in a Rams shirt, Premier League experience with Palace and the hope of putting in plenty of big tackles in a black and white shirt.
On wanting to join Derby County…
This is a big club with a big history as well. I felt like this was the best place to kick-start my career. He (Paul Warne) is a good gaffer. From the first time I spoke to him, he just made me feel welcome and he spoke to my family. I thought this is the place to be.
I told my agent straight away that this is a club I wanted to join, and he made me feel really welcome here. I played a couple of games last season and was on the bench a bit too. But that can get a bit frustrating, so I thought I should go out and get some games. So, I’m really happy to be here.
On his achievements with Crystal Palace in the Premier League…
It’s been a crazy journey, with a lot of ups and downs. I’m grateful to Palace for everything they have done. To play in the Premier League is surreal, coming on in massive stadiums. Now, I just can’t wait to play games here.
On making his first move after eight years with the Eagles…
It’s a bit weird but I’ll get used to it. They are both big clubs, so I will get used to it.
On his family support network…
They’re all happy and proud of me. They have been there for me from the start, so I just have to repay that with my performances.
On getting to know his new team-mates…
I’ve met a couple of them. I met Corey Blackett-Taylor; I knew him before I came here. All they (the squad) do is try to make me feel welcome, and I’m happy about that.
On what to expect on the pitch…
Passion, hunger, big tackles - hopefully. And getting the crowd going. They’ll see when I step onto the pitch, but I just want to play for the badge.
