Derby County goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith has been named as the winner of Sky Bet League One’s Golden Glove for the 2023/24 campaign.
The shot-stopper kept a clean sheet in the Rams’ 2-0 victory against Carlisle United at Pride Park Stadium on Saturday afternoon, his 20th in the league this term and more than any other goalkeeper in the third tier.
Wildsmith saw off competition from Lincoln City’s Lukas Jensen to win the impressive accolade.
The shut-out was Derby’s 22nd in the league, the highest in the division, with Wildsmith recording 20 and fellow shot-stopper Josh Vickers registering two.
Reacting to the news, Derby’s number one said: “I am delighted to win the Golden Glove award for the season in League One. It is a proud moment for me on a personal basis, but this is an accolade for everyone involved and not one individual.
“I must give a huge shout out to Josh Vickers and Scott Loach, as the other two goalkeepers in the team, and our goalkeeping coach Andy Warrington. We have a great goalkeeping unit with a strong working relationship.
“Our defence deserves huge praise for the way they’ve performed this season. There have been so many headers competed for, tackles won and vital blocks made to contribute to the clean sheets we’ve had. The midfielders and forward plays have equally contributed so this really is an award for the whole team and without them it wouldn’t be possible.”
Wildsmith, 28, ended the current campaign with 43 appearances in all competitions to take his total up to 97 in total for the club since signing in the summer of 2022.
