Derby County's Joe Ward believes the 2-2 draw with Portsmouth in Sky Bet League One on Tuesday evening can be seen as a 'very good point'.

Ward scored both goals on the night for Derby at Fratton Park, his first two in the black and white since arriving from Peterborough United last summer, and helped the team secure what could be a vital point come the end of the campaign.

Speaking to RamsTV after the game, Ward gave his verdict on the performance.

On how he views the point...

I think it is a very good point to be fair. We came here wanting the three points, but it was a tough game and they scored late on. We'll take the point and move on.

On what he made of the performance overall...

I thought we did very well. We came here with a gameplan and we did well with it. We did the things we worked on in training and exploited their weaknesses. Overall, it was a good performance.

On whether his goals were worked on in training...

To be fair, I've scored a few of those over the years from that sort of position. We knew there was going to be space in that area so it was just a case of getting on the end of the pass and taking the opportunity.

On how good it felt to grab his first goals for the club...

Very good. I've been waiting a little while for the first goal. A few of the lads were saying I was going to score. I felt good going into the game and felt like I was going to score, so doing so felt great and obviously getting the point was good as well.

On getting not one but two goals on the night...

I just got in a good area to be honest and took the shot on. Luckily it got a little deflection and went in and after that I was hoping to get a hat-trick! It's good to get two goals, I just want to score all the time and ultimately help the team.

On what the conditions were like...

It was a crazy game. It was raining so hard and the pitch was boggy in some points and in others they were just bouncing out of play. Sometimes we had to go longer and play the conditions but it made it a good game.

On how quickly focus moves on to Wycombe next Wednesday...

Straight away. This game has gone now. We'll have a little bit of rest but ultimately the next game is massive. We'll look to go and get three points.

On the travelling fans...

They are unbelievable. At home games they are unbelievable and on the road they are unbelievable. They are going to be massive for us going forwards for the next few games. We appreciate their support and hopefully we can get them what they want come the end of the season.
