Derby County winger Tom Barkhuizen admitted it was disheartening to concede so late on in the 1-1 draw at home to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday - but stresssed the team will 'regroup and go again.'
Barkhuizen's late strike, his second in as many games, looked to have secured all three points for the Rams but the Chairboys equalised with a penalty deep into stoppage time in the Sky Bet League One encounter.
Speaking to RamsTV after the final whistle, Barkhuizen gave his verdict on the performance.
On the result...
It's disheartening. We probably didn't deserve to win, but when you go 1-0 up you've just got to see the game out, and when it's literally the last kick of the game, it's hard to take. It's our own fault, we've got to defend better as a team and control the ball better in the last few minutes. It's another point, though. Results haven't been too damaging around us so we move on to Thursday when we face Lincoln, regroup and go again.
On whether he thought Derby had done enough to win...
You're always wary, especially when they send numerous big lads up for a free-kick. You've got to expect your team-mate to lose the header and so on but we've also got to communicate better. It is what it is, we can't do anything about it now we just have to regroup and put it right.
On the frustration of not closing the gap on those above them...
We've got to take advantage of teams slipping up. Bolton have slipped up today and Oxford have slipped recently too. The good thing is, nobody is really pulling away and we've got another home game coming up on Thursday to put it right.
On scoring in back-to-back games...
It's always nice to score goals. I've been ill all week and didn't even know if I'd be able to play, but it was good to be out there and score. The gaffer always emphasises the lads coming off the bench and making an impact. As a forward player, the best way to get into the team is to score and create and thankfully I've been able to do that. It's not nice to go a long time without a league goal and thankfully for me I've got two in two now.
