Derby County's Under-21s progressed to the Fourth Round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup after a penalty shoot-out victory over Staveley Miners Welfare following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.
Winger Carlos Richards put the Rams in front on the night before the home side levelled things up through Kian Tansley.
After nothing could separate the two sides across the 90 minutes, penalties were required and Jake Buxton's side scored all ten of their spot-kicks to ensure they progressed in the competition.
The young Rams had plenty of possession in the early stages but had to bide their time when creating chances. Defender Callum Moore fired over with their first opportunity following a neat through ball from Tony Weston.
Charlie Lindsay fired a one-on-one opportunity over the crossbar following a defensive mishap as Derby continued to press.
And they took a well deserved lead on half-hour mark when Richards tapped home from close range after a good pull-back from Weston.
Weston had the ball in the net for a second time for Derby before the break with a lovely finish but the flag was raised early to deny any celebrations.
The home side equalised with their first attemp of the night but it was an outstanding free-kick to tie the game from Pickering to ensure the teams went into the break level.
Chances were few and far between for both teams in the second half with neither able to break the other down.
Weston headed wide from six yards out with the best chance of the half for Derby and Staveley's Josh Pickering had a golden opportunity to win the tie in the dying minutes but volleyed wide when it looked easier to score.
With neither side able to find the winner in normal time, penalties were needed to determine a winner.
A total of 20 were taken altogether with the Rams scoring all ten of theirs in sublime fashion to cement the win and progress into the next round.
