Derby County Women will hit the road for the first time in the 2023/24 season when they travel to Liverpool Feds on Sunday (2pm kick-off).

dcfc.co.uk has brought together all the key information you will need to know ahead of the FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division fixture at Jericho Lane Sports Hub.

Manager's Thoughts...

Manager Sam Griffiths pulled no punches when assessing the 4-2 League Cup loss to West Bromwich Albion on home turf last weekend.

Last season's top scorer Amy Sims and summer signing Yasmin Mosby both got their first goals of the campaign, but it wasn't enough as Derby went from a goal ahead to 3-1 down at the break. Despite Mosby pulling a goal back in the second half, the Baggies netted a fourth from the penalty spot after a swift-counter attack.

Griffiths was less than impressed with the way the Ewes exited the competition, but was quick to point out the value of a positive week on the training ground.

She said after the game: “We’ll look back on things, and the good things we did too, to move forward. I know this group and I know they’ll want to learn and put things right."

From The Dressing Room...

Left-back Megan Tinsley made her long-awaited return in last weekend’s League Cup reverse against West Bromwich Albion at the Don Amott Arena to appear for the Ewes for the first time in over a year.

She missed the entire 2022/23 campaign after following medical advice relating to an issue with her heart but her comeback resulted in playing the full 90 minutes against the Baggies and putting in a strong display.

Tinsley said: “We’ve had two disappointing results to start of the season and we’ve been a little bit unlucky in the matches so far.

“We need to take our chances in the attacking area and be assertive with things too. Liverpool Feds will be a good test for us to put what we’ve been working on in training into practice.”

The Season So Far...

Derby County Women started their 2023/24 FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division season with a 2-1 loss against promotion hopefuls Wolverhampton Wanderers last month.

Derby trailed 2-0 at the break, with Ellie Wilson and Amber Hughes scoring for the visitors, but they produced a strong display in the second half and Molly Sutherland pulled a goal back on the hour.

Despite pushing for a leveller, the Ewes were unable to avoid defeat on the opening day of the campaign at the Don Amott Arena in Mickleover.

Liverpool Feds, meanwhile, started their 2023/24 league campaign with a 3-2 home defeat against Burnley.
