Derby County’s Under-21s picked up their first point of the 2023/24 Premier League 2 season on Friday night as they came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Liverpool.
Striker Dajaune Brown equalised with ten minutes remaining to earn a point for Jake Buxton’s side, who had trailed to Trent Kone Doherty’s goal shortly before the hour.
The game, played at Alfreton Town’s Impact Arena, was goalless at the interval after a first half which the visitors edged in terms of chances.
Doherty put Liverpool in front after 56 minutes with a low drive beyond the reach of Harry Evans into the bottom corner after beating the offside trap to burst clear on goal.
Derby remained firmly in the contest and eventually got a deserved equaliser with 80 minutes on the clock when Brown found the back of the net from close range, after Bradley Johnson's header had hit the post, for his first goal of the campaign.
Next up for the Under-21s is a Central League clash against Mansfield Town at Moor Farm Training Ground on Tuesday 22nd August (2pm kick-off), while they return to Premier League 2 action on Friday 25th August against Tottenham Hotspur at Pride Park Stadium (7pm kick-off).
