Derby County Head Coach Paul Warne described himself as 'hugely disappointed' following the 2-1 defeat to Oxford United on Tuesday night.

Martyn Waghorn's first goal since his return to Derbyshire late onwasn't enough to cancel out Mark Harris' double for the U's as the Rams succumbed to a defeat under the floodlights at Pride Park Stadium.

Speaking to RamsTV after the match, Warne gave his verdict on the performance.

On the game...

It was a disappointing night for everyone. Everyone feels disappointed, staff and players. It's not what we're involved in to put on a performance like that. Whenever we make a mistake we're getting punished. It took their goal to kind of engage us in any positive play. I pick the team so it's on me.

We were chasing the game in the second half which left us a little open so I appreciate they were going to pick us off every now and then but the risk was worth taking at 1-0.

The lads' performance in the second half was considerably better. Waggy was bright and got his goal, Wash was bright and could have scored if he'd have swivelled his body a bit quicker.

Sporadically we had moments but not enough and in fairness when they counter-attacked us they had a bit of class and pace and took us to the sword. We need to pick a team that is going to be competitive on Saturday against Fleetwood and I look forward to watching a response.

I don't want Derby County fans to turn up and watch a below standard performance but we played against a good team tonight that I think are going to be right up there. I still expect more from us.

I felt like there were times in our game tonight where we looked nervy and I don't want us to ever look nervy. All in all I'm hugely disappointed.

We'll try and bounce back on Saturday and hopefully we be here at 5pm on Saturday feeling good about ourselves. It feels like we had a step forward at the weekend and a step back tonight.

On the bright sparks in the game...

If we win, I don't come in skipping around the place and if we lose I try not to be too down because it's just an even keel.

I always show the lads the good bits. There will be parts of it tonight but you leave the ground with the emotion that everything is so frustrating and doom and gloom.

It felt like to me that we just looked a bit nervy. This should be a fortress and we should enjoy playing here and I think the lads do but for whatever reason tonight we just weren't on song.

On Joe Ward and Max Bird...

Joe Ward felt his heel when he came off. I don't honestly know with him but I went on to the pitch at the end to speak with Birdy and he wouldn't speak because he was in that much pain. Hopefully he will be absolutely fine but the early signs are, he will not.
