Derby County’s Jason Knight featured for the Republic of Ireland as a substitute in their 2-1 loss to Greece on Friday night.
Midfielder Knight came off the bench early in the second half of the UEFA 2024 European Championship Group B Qualifier in Athens to register his 19th senior international cap.
Anastasios Bakasetas gave Greece an early lead from the penalty spot, but Nathan Collins equalised shortly afterwards for Stephen Kenny’s side.
Giorgos Masouras netted what turned out to be the winner four minutes into the second half for the hosts and Knight, 22, was introduced into the action a few minutes later.
The result leaves Ireland pointless in Group B after two matches following a narrow 1-0 home defeat against France in their opening qualifier back March.
Ireland will have the opportunity to get off the mark, however, when they host Gibraltar at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Monday evening.
