Derby County Women will grace the Pride Park Stadium playing surface on Sunday afternoon when they host East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest Women.
Sam Griffiths' side have been in fine form in 2023 and will be looking to rise the occasion against the Reds (2pm kick-off) and dcfc.co.uk has brought together all the key information you will need to know ahead of the game.
Team News...
Forward Keira Barry, who is on a dual registration from the Manchester United Academy, is out for the remainder of the season after picking up an injury whilst on international duty.
No other players are out through injury or suspension, however both Millie Jenkins and Ella Hilliard are returning from injury and as a result may not be available to play the full 90 minutes, although they are in line to play some part.
Defender Megan Tinsley is out of action after she was ruled out for the whole season with a heart condition.
Manager's Thoughts...
Derby County Women boss Sam Griffiths offered her pre-match thoughts to RamsTV as the Rams look to record the local bragging rights against the Reds on home turf.
She explained: "I think we go into Sunday under no pressure and that's probably the
biggest thing for us. We've probably achieved what we needed to achieve
this year, already. At the start of the season there was no hiding that
it was to avoid relegation, we knew it was going to be a tough season
and the girls have done an unbelievable job to be where we are in the
league. We knew post-Christmas that we had a run of games where we could
really stretch ourselves and we have."
From The Dressing Room...
Kira Rai sat down with RamsTV to offer a players’ perspective ahead of the showdown with the Reds at Pride Park Stadium.
She said: "It's going to be a new experience for a lot of the team but for the
few of us that have been there and done it before, I think it's down to
us to control the emotions and not let it get the better of those that
haven't played in it before. We've got to play the game and not the
occasion."
The Season So Far...
Derby County Women have enjoyed a positive and progressive 2022/23 season in the FA Women's National League North.
After losing a number of key players last summer and the average age of the squad being reduced, Sam Griffiths' side have stepped up to the plate and produced some encouraging and positive showings this term.
Prior to last weekend's 4-1 loss at Burnley, the Ewe Rams had won six successive games in 2023 to cement them in fourth place in the league table.
Despite some excellent and convincing wins this term, arguably one of the stand-out results was the 3-1 success at West Bromwich Albion in November. The game was played at the Baggies' home ground, the Hawthorns, and Derby turned on the style to register a fine away win.
Derby have picked up four wins, one draw and three losses on home turf in the league this term, as well as six wins, one draw and two defeats on the road.
