Derby County goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith has been nominated for the Carabao Cup Round Three ‘Player of the Round’ accolade.

Wildsmith produced a Man of the Match display in the 0-0 draw at Anfield to take the cup clash to a penalty shoot-out.

Although Derby were beaten 3-2 on spot-kicks by last season’s UEFA Champions League finalists, Wildsmith’s display has not been overlooked.

The EFL’s verdict on Wildsmith’s display is as follows:

“He may have been outdone by opposite number Caoimhin Kelleher in the shootout at Anfield, but it was Wildsmith who ensured that it went to penalties in the first place. Twisting his body this way and that, he made a series of brave saves in front of the Kop to keep Derby in the tie and even saved Liverpool’s first spot-kick from Stefan Bajectic.”

Wildsmith is in the running for the award alongside Nottingham Forest’s on-time Rams loanee Jesse Lingard, Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez and Newcastle United custodian Nick Pope.
