It’s a break from league action and a return to Emirates FA Cup football for Derby County when they travel to Sky Bet League Two outfit Newport County on Sunday afternoon (3:15pm kick-off) in the Second Round of the competition.

The Rams earned their place in the Second Round following the 5-0 First Round Replay victory over Torquay United last time out and will now travel to Wales looking to progress to the Third Round.

In the lead-up to the game getting underway, dcfc.co.uk has brought together all the key information you need to know…

Team News

Winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (hamstring) and defender Haydon Roberts (hamstring) are both recovering really well from their respective injuries but Sunday’s game will come too soon for the pair.

Skipper Curtis Davies (knee) is back on the grass but is still a week or two away from returning to full training.

Centre-back James Chester (calf) has suffered a slight set-back in his recovery and remains a way off a full comeback.

Goalkeeper Joseph Anang (arm) has started to take part in training exercises but will not be available for selection for the trip to Wales as he continues to increase his workload

Midfielder Jason Knight (ankle) is back in full training and is available for selection for Sunday's game.

Warne’s Words

Head Coach Paul Warne spoke to RamsTV to preview a return to Emirates FA Cup action on Sunday afternoon.

He said: "I know their manager really well. He watched us coach for a while when he was out of work and we were at Rotherham. We're good friends.

"His teams work really, really hard. He did an amazing job at Bristol Rovers and then took over at Mansfield Town.

"We've watched a lot of them, as we always do, but we have to be at our best. The World Cup is showing that you can't underestimate any team and we're going to have to match their intensity, that's for sure."

From The Dressing Room

Young defender Jake Rooney sat down with RamsTV after his recent spell in the first team line-up to preview Sunday’s contest.

He said: "Everyone looks good. The little break has done us the world of good so hopefully we can go into Sunday nice and strong and get a good performance.

"I'm hoping we can get a big win; a nice performance first and foremost. It will be a tricky game, but hopefully we can get the job done."

Match Officials

Anthony Backhouse has been appointed as the head referee for Sunday’s contest.

Adrian Tranter and Grant Taylor will assist whilst Robert Lewis will be on Fourth Official duties.

Backhouse has taken charge of 14 games so far this season including Derby’s opening game of the campaign against Oxford United.

He’s distributed 42 yellow cards, zero reds and awarded two penalties across those matches.

FA Cup Format

In rounds up to and including the Fourth Round, fixtures resulting in a draw over the course of 90 minutes will go to a replay at the away side.

If the replay once again ends in a draw after 90 minutes, extra-time will be played and then if necessary, a penalty shoot-out.

Since 2016/17, ties have been settled on the day from the Quarter-Finals onwards with the use of extra-time and penalties.

From 2018/19, any tie from the Fifth Round onwards is now also settled by the use of extra-time and penalties rather than a replay.

FA Cup Substitute Rules

In the FA Cup, each club is permitted to name up to nine substitutes on their team sheet, of whom not more than five may take part in the cup tie.

Each club is only permitted a maximum of three opportunities to make substitutions during the game, although clubs may make substitutions at half time and any that are made will not count towards the maximum of three opportunities
