Derby County are back in Papa Johns Trophy action on Tuesday evening when they travel to the One Call Stadium for the second time this season to take on Mansfield Town (7pm kick-off).

New Head Coach Paul Warne will be looking to build on what was a perfect start to his tenure following the 2-0 League One win at Cambridge United on Saturday in his first match in charge of the Rams.

Team News

Midfielder Korey Smith and goalkeeper Joseph Anang remain absentees for the Rams, although both players are back on the grass in some capacity and increasing their workload.

Defender Jake Rooney remains out with a thigh strain, whilst striker David McGoldrick, who missed the win at Cambridge on Saturday, is expected to be out of action for a couple of weeks with a groin issue.

Richie Barker's Thoughts

Assistant Head Coach Richie Barker spoke to RamsTV ahead of Tuesday evening's game to discuss life since his move to Derbyshire and the importance of keeping momentum going.

He said: "We think the competition is important for many reasons. It gives opportunities to players who are on the fringes of the squad, which is important when you've just had a new managerial team take over.

"The aim is to get out of the group stages and it can sometimes take focus away from the league, which we are definitely not. We're not going to do that. Ideally, we would we like a cup run that runs alongside it to give people opportunities and then maybe lift the trophy. That's what you start thinking about a little bit further down the line."

From The Dressing Room

Defender Eiran Cashin spoke to RamsTV ahead of Tuesday evening's clash with the Stags.

He said: "I'm looking forward to it. It was good to get a win away from home on Saturday. It was a good result. It was nice to finally score and win away from home after a long wait. We'll take that into the Mansfield game and we have to make sure we're at it, make sure we win again and try and put a run together."

About The Opposition

Managed by former Derby boss Nigel Clough, Tuesday evening's match-up will be the second time this season that the Rams have met the Stags in a Cup tie.

The two faced off back in August in Round One of the Carabao Cup with Derby running out 2-1 winners on the night.

Since that evening, Clough's men have been ticking along nicely in league action and currently sit in the play-off spots of League Two.

They are unbeaten in their last five in league action and will pose a tough test for Warne's side in just his second game in charge.

Papa Johns Trophy Match Format

If the scores are level at the end of 90 minutes then each club is awarded one point. In addition, the match will be followed by a penalty shoot-out and the club that wins on spot-kicks will be awarded an additional one point.

Papa Johns Trophy Substitute Rules

In the Papa Johns Trophy, each club is permitted to name up to seven substitutes on their team sheet, of whom not more than five may take part in the cup tie.

Each club is only permitted a maximum of three opportunities to make substitutions during the game, although clubs may make substitutions at half time and any that are made will not count towards the maximum of three opportunities.

Match Officials

Ben Toner is the man in the middle for the Papa Johns Trohpy clash with the Stags and he'll be assisted by Nik Barnard and Jake Topp.

Oliver Mackey will be on fourth official duties.

Toner has officiated 10 games so far in this campaign across League One, League Two and the Papa Johns Trophy. He's dished out 31 yellow cards, zero reds and awarded one penalty kick.
