William Osula had an afternoon to remember as he netted his first professional goals in Derby County’s 3-0 away victory at Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
The 19-year-old frontman netted two first half goals, on what was also his first professional start, as Derby picked up all three points in the Sky Bet League One clash at the Wham Stadium.
Osula, a Denmark youth international, joined the Rams on a season-long loan deal from Championship side Sheffield United at the end of the Summer Transfer Window and had made four substitute appearances prior to the clash with Accrington.
With leading goalscorer James Collins suspended, Osula made the most of the opportunity to shine with his pair of clinical finishes before Tom Barkhuizen tapped home a late third.
Following the final whistle, Osula caught up with RamsTV to reflect on a special afternoon from a personal perspective.
On The Afternoon…
I am very happy. To get three points, and two goals on top of that, is brilliant. It is a great feeling for me. When I found out I was starting, I knew I needed to go out and prove myself. It was an opportunity for me and I knew the importance of taking it. I couldn’t wait to get out there and hopefully I can show more of what I can do in the future. I just need to keep my head down and stay focussed; I’m hungry for more.
On The First Goal…
As soon as I got the ball, I knew what to do. I was able to take a step to my left foot and then hit the ball towards goal. I managed to get good power on it as well for it to beat the goalkeeper, as well as the accuracy. It was my first professional goal and an amazing feeling.
On The Second Goal…
I managed to get in behind the defender for it and as soon as it went in, I wanted to get straight over to the fans and it was great to enjoy it with them. They’ve been amazing with me and welcomed me since day one.
On The Fans…
It amazing to have the fans singing a song for me. I want to thank them for that and for getting behind us all. It feels good and for me I feel like I am part of it with them.
