Derby County’s players aren’t dwelling on the past two defeats and are looking forward to putting things right back home at Pride Park Stadium against Wycombe Wanderers, according to goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith.
The Rams go into the game on Saturday having lost their last two, a 3-2 loss at home to Plymouth Argyle before a 2-0 defeat away at Lincoln City on Tuesday night.
There has been a determined attitude around camp since then to put those results right and rediscover what had been a faultless home record prior to Plymouth when the Chairboys come to town on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Wildsmith discussed the positive atmosphere that has been on display at Moor Farm Training Ground, the goalkeeper’s union and the test Wycombe pose among much more when he joined RamsTV on Thursday afternoon.
Tuesday reflections…
It obviously wasn’t the greatest night for us as a team. We don’t want to lose games.
We got caught with a game where we weren’t really on it and they were - and we paid the consequences for that. The big thing for us today was getting back out on the grass, getting a good atmosphere around the place and start focusing on Saturday. It is a big game at Pride Park and we want to get the fans behind us and try and put things right from Tuesday night.
The positive atmosphere in camp…
There’s no point dwelling too much on the past. It’s gone now, we can’t change it but we can change the future and the future is obviously the game coming up on Saturday against Wycombe.
We know it’s going to be a tough game, they are notoriously tough team to play against at this level and everyone is up for it and ready to go.
Relishing being number one…
It’s great. For me on a personal note, it’s good for me to get the games under my belt and I’ve actually played more already this season then I did last year so that’s a real plus for me that that’s come from being at Derby County and I’m really enjoying playing with the boys out there and with the staff. Hopefully now we can start changing some of those games that we are drawing, and unfortunately losing, into wins and get a real good atmosphere around the place.
It’s been nice, the manager and staff here put a lot of confidence into the players and we go out there with the main thing to enjoy it first and foremost and that makes it much easier to do your job. If you ask anyone in any walk of life, if they enjoy their job, it’s much easier to do day-to-day and we know we’re in a privileged position as footballers to do what we love doing but to have that added confidence put into us and focus on enjoying our football – it makes things a hell of a lot easier.
The goalkeeper’s union…
It’s a great group, one of the best groups I’ve been in to be fair and everyone is really, really close.
Obviously with Joseph Anang at the minute he’s been away off the grass but even in and around the training ground, everyone is really, really close with him and keeping him intact with the group and obviously Scott Loach and Harrison Foulkes bring a lot to the table with their attitude to training and their general comradery in the group.
On Joseph Anang…
It will be good to have him back soon; it will be brilliant. It was very unfortunate what happened to him, a freak thing and obviously it affects him more with him being a goalkeeper.
It will be great to get him back, back fit and amongst it and it’s great when people are pushing each other because you get the best out of each other.
On the start to the season…
It’s been an OK start. I think there are games that we may have left out there in terms of points and we know that but I think the general sort of play in the team and performance from the team may have deserved more points and that’s unfortunate for us but we’ve got the confidence in the group to pull that from those performances. We may not have got the results we wanted but at least we know we can perform at the level and the results will come as the boys gel even more and get to know each other even more, those relationships should develop and that should result in us getting better results.
On the team's return to Pride Park…
The fans fill the stadium out every week when we’re there and to have that backing and atmosphere at home games it really helps us in terms of creating almost a hostile environment for the other team as well. It helps us both ways and it will be great to get back there and get another good result on Saturday for the fans and for ourselves to get back on that winning trend.
On Wycombe Wanderers…
Through the years we’ve seen them be more of a direct team at this level and that’s served them well getting promoted to the Championship. I think we have an idea of what to expect and the sort of personnel that we’ll be playing. We know it will be a tough game like every game is in League One so we’ll have to be up for it which we will be but really looking forward to it and hopefully get a good result.
