Conor Hourihane was the hero at Pride Park Stadium on Saturday afternoon when his two goals saw Derby County come from behind to win 2-1 against Wycombe Wanderers.

Anis Mehmeti put the visitors in front early on before two excellent finishes from the Rams' Irish midfielder ensured Derby landed all three points in Sky Bet League One.

Hourihane caught up with RamsTV after the final whistle to offer his verdict on the 90 minutes from his perspective.

On the game...

Delighted with the three points. We had to show character today and showed even more character after going 1-0 down. We’ve been disappointed with the last few performances and results so today was important to get the three points and put in a decent performance and go into the international break with a feel good factor.

On the performance...

I think we had a lot of chances and in the first-half we had a spell of 10 seconds where we had four shots and they blocked a couple on the line and you thought 'it can’t be one of these days again'. In the second-half we created chances, we have done every game I feeln and especially at home, and we just needed to get that first one to go in.

On his two goals...

I scored in the first game of the season and it’s been a bit of time since then. I’m quite hard on myself so I felt like it was a really good opportunity when Didzy slipped that ball to me and lucky enough it went in.

The second fell for me nicely, after getting one I was on a high and felt like I would venture in the box a bit and you never know what can break for you. Luckily it fell for me and I always fancy myself on my left foot - so it was good to see it go in.

On the character of the squad...

It’s something I pride myself on, being a really good character on and off the pitch, and we’ve got plenty of them in the dressing room. I think the big word to take from today is character and to come back from a couple of bad results. At 1-0 down today we could have went under a little bit but we stood up to it and we felt like we got the three points that we deserved.

On the two week break...

It gives everyone time to reflect now after a hectic start to the season. We’ve had a quick turnaround, lots of new players, bedding in and whatever. We feel like we’re a couple of points shy of where we deserve to be, but we’ve got what we've got. It’s time to for everyone to regroup, get a couple of injuries mended and get them back for after the break.

On Joe Wildsmith...

He is massive for us. It was a group effort today but credit to Joey today he pulled off a couple of good saves.

On the Republic of Ireland...

I am really looking forward to the next few games. I love playing for my country, it gives me a nice bounce now to meet up with them full of confidence.
