Interim Manager Liam Rosenior described himself as ‘hugely frustrated and almost furious’ that Derby County couldn’t turn their dominant performance at Fleetwood Town into a victory.
Derby had to settle for a share of the spoils in the League One fixture against Scott Brown’s outfit as the first-ever competitive meeting between the two clubs ended goalless.
Rosenior’s side carved out opportunities in both halves and had a total of 27 shots over the 90 minutes, but they were unable to find the back of the net at Highbury Stadium with home goalkeeper Jay Lynch making several fine stops.
Derby are yet to find the net in three away outings in League One this term, following a 1-0 loss at Charlton Athletic and a 0-0 draw at Shrewsbury Town earlier this month, despite creating more than enough chances in each fixture and it is a statistic that Rosenior is disappointed with.
On the positive side, Derby have kept three clean sheets in their five League One outings so far and have only conceded two goals in the league so far this term.
Rosenior caught up with RamsTV after the final whistle to assess the 90 minutes and also provide an injury update from the dressing room on on-loan West Ham United goalkeeper Joseph Anang, who was absent from the squad against the Cod Army.
On A Second Straight Goalless Draw…
I turned around after 20 minutes and said to the staff behind me: please don’t let it be one of those days again. The football we played and the chances we are creating, I am delighted. But I cannot help but be frustrated and almost furious we haven’t won that game today. Fleetwood celebrated at the end and it was a 0-0 draw and it’s something we are going to have to face this year. Credit to them, they threw everything at us too and we have found the biggest problems we’ve faced this season is from long balls into our box. We have to start taking advantage of these situations. I can’t believe we’ve not scored in the last two games to be honest. We had 27 shots today and 13 corners as well. I don’t want the players to be down and feeling sorry for themselves; we just have to put teams to the sword. The lads are doing everything I am asking of them, but we just have to score goals.
The Feeling In The Dressing Room…
We are frustrated but that’s because we set ourselves high standards and I still strongly believe we will be a force to be reckoned with in this league. Our build-up play to the 18-yard box, teams can’t live with us. We’ve missed chances, we’ve had efforts blocked and saved; we have to make our luck turn. We cannot take our foot off the gas in terms of our performance level, that’s very important. I am so confident we will have a great season. I am proud watching this team play and I hope the fans can see what we are trying to do too. We are an inch away from being so successful this year.
On A Third Clean Sheet In Five League Games…
The lads at the back defended well again and when we have so much possession, it does limit the threat. We lost our skipper Curtis Davies a few games ago to injury and Richard Stearman has come in and done a brilliant job alongside Eiran Cashin. There a lot of positives to come away from our recent games and the building blocks are there; the clean sheets are one of them.
On Joseph Anang Being Out Injured…
Joseph picked up an injury in training and it was a really unfortunate one. He got a kick on his arm in his second training session. He has a small fracture and he is going to be out for about six weeks, but it could have been worse. I am disappointed for him and I know he will be an asset for us moving forward. In the meantime, Joe Wildsmith will continue to play and he has done well; he’s kept three clean sheets and he has been outstanding.
On West Bromwich Albion On Tuesday In The Carabao Cup….
It is a real opportunity for us on Tuesday to test ourselves against a good Championship side and show what we can do. We have some lads that want to play games as they haven’t recently, so they will get a chance. Steve Bruce is a manager I have huge respect for and I had a great time playing under him at Hull City, so I’m looking forward to seeing him and his coaching staff at Pride Park on Tuesday.
