Derby County have completed the loan signing of goalkeeper Joseph Anang from Premier League side West Ham United.

The 22-year-old, who has represented England at youth international level, will spend the 2022/23 campaign at Pride Park Stadium.

Anang recently returned to the Hammers following an impressive loan spell at League of Ireland Premier Division side St Patrick's Athletic.

He was the hero in their Europa Conference League Qualifying Round penalty-shoot out win over Slovenian side NS Mura last month, following a 1-1 aggregate draw, with a Man of the Match performance and a crucial save when it came to spot-kicks.

Anang is the third new addition to Derby’s goalkeeping department this summer, led by Head Goalkeeping Coach Jason Pearcey, following the arrivals of Joe Wildsmith and Scott Loach in July.

Joseph Anang In Profile

Born in Ghana, Anang moved to England in his younger years and joined West Ham United’s youth system as a scholar in 2017.

He featured at Under-18 level during the 2017/18 season, before establishing himself as their first-choice goalkeeper in the 2018/19 campaign as well as stepping up to the Under-21s in Premier League 2. He was also called up to the England Under-19 squad during the campaign as a reward for his performances.

Anang’s progression continued in the 2019/20 season and was a near ever-present as the Hammers’ Under-21s won the Premier League 2 - Division 2 title. The goalkeeper was also an unused substitute for the Hammers’ first team in a 2-1 loss at Crystal Palace December 2019, which came weeks after he made his England Under-20s debut in a 3-0 win over Iceland.

The custodian linked up with League Two side Stevenage on loan ahead of the 2021/22 campaign to get his first taste of senior football, having previously gained some experience by playing five times for West Ham in the Papa Johns Trophy. He went on to play 18 times in all competitions before returning to the Hammers in January 2022.

Following his return to his parent club, Anang immediately moved out on loan to League of Ireland Premier Division side St Patrick's Athletic for their 2022 season as the next stage of his development.

His spell in Ireland allowed him to play regular first-team football, as well as performing in their Europa Conference League qualification campaign, and he earned plaudits for his impressive displays. In total he played 30 times, keeping 12 clean sheets.
