Derby County youngster Darren Robinson racked up two more appearances for Northern Ireland’s Under-19s last week.
Gerard Lyttle’s side played two international friendly fixtures in Malta as they prepare for the start of their 2022-23 UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifying round campaign in September.
Northern Ireland have been drawn in Group 13 of the 2022-23 UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifying round along with Netherlands (hosts), Slovenia and Moldova. Their four-team mini-tournament is scheduled to be staged from 21st to 27th September, while Malta is set to host the finals next year.
Robinson, who won Derby’s Scholar of the Season accoldade at the recent End of Season awards night in early May, featured in both matches as his side registered back-to-back wins.
The 17-year-old started the two games at the Malta Football Association’s training complex in Ta’ Qali, a 6-0 victory in the first outing and then a 2-1 success a two days later, to round off a busy few weeks after recently spending time training with Northern Ireland’s senior team at a training camp.
Robinson, who signed a two-year scholarship with the Rams at the start of the 2021/22 campaign, made his senior debut for Derby in a 3-1 defeat against Bristol City at Pride Park Stadium in April 2022 as a late substitute.
He was a regular in Derby’s Under-18s and Under-23s squad during the season, whilst he also stepped up and trained with Wayne Rooney’s first team on a number of occasions throughout the campaign.
