TEAM NEWS…
Midfielder Graeme Shinnie will miss the game against Barnsley after picking up his fifth booking of the season in Derby's 2-1 loss at home to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. He will serve a one-match ban as a result.
Strikers Colin Kazim-Richards and Sam Baldock are pushing to start after the pair came off the bench at half-time against Blackburn at the weekend.
Midfielder Jason Knight remains a doubt after missing the Rams' last two matches against Coventry City and Blackburn with a thigh problem, but it is hoped that he could return to the fold.
Polish
international midfielder Krystian Bielik, who suffered an ACL knee
injury in January of this year, is making good progress in his rehabilitation work
but is still not yet in a position to return to full training.
MANAGER'S THOUGHTS…
Manager Wayne Rooney offered his pre-match views to RamsTV on Tuesday afternoon and he said: “It’s never nice when you lose a game, especially at home and in the manner that we did on Saturday.
“As I said after the game, the first half wasn’t good enough. We must dust ourselves off and we have a very big game coming up at Barnsley.
“We know it’s a game where it can lift us off the bottom of the table so we have to give everything to win.”
He added “Barnsley have just lost their manager and played in different ways this season.
“It is quite difficult to analyse what they are going to do so we have to have trust in ourselves and in our game plan of how we want to play and if we do that well enough then we are more than capable of getting three points.”
PLAYER THOUGHTS…
Colin Kazim-Richards spoke to RamsTV after training on Tuesday at Moor Farm Training Ground.
The striker said: “It’s never easy to be out injured, not for me anyway personally. I’m not the type of player who doesn’t like being involved, not being capable and not being in and around it.
“It’s been very difficult but being able to be in and around the team, people and staff feels good.
“Little by little, I’ve been able to get my fitness back because I did have quite a bad injury which turned out lucky enough for us for me to get back quicker than we thought.
“We would have taken that any day of the week; it’s nice to be back.
“I put it in my mind that it was going to be long term so anything that was shorter than I put in my mind was going to be a bonus.
“To get the actual results and it confirmed that it was going to be this - then it was ‘go’ time. There was no time for rest and I needed to get back.”
He added: “I’ll be ready when I’m called upon.”
MATCH OFFICIALS…
Kevin Friend will oversee Wednesday's game at Oakwell.
Friend has overseen eight games so far this season in all competitions, showing 27 yellow cards and no reds.
The Premier League official last oversaw a Derby game back in September as the Rams drew 0-0 at West Bromwich Albion.
Friend will be assisted by Edward Smart and Simon Beck on the lines, whilst Matthew Donohue has been appointed as the fourth official.
EFL SUBSTITUTE RULES…
The five substitutions rule has been scrapped for the 2021/22 season, the English Football League confirmed in July.
The rule allowing clubs to make five changes, as opposed to the usual three, was brought in following football's restart in June 2020 after a break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Given that games had to be condensed into a short period of time it was thought beneficial and allowed managers to make as many as five changes in three intervals during a match.
Clubs had a longer post-break between seasons this time around and so the temporary rule has been changed.
Teams will be able to name seven substitutes but only use a maximum of three.
