Derby County Football Club can confirm that a member of its first team playing squad was subject to alleged discriminatory abuse during this afternoon’s Championship fixture at Millwall.
The player will receive the club’s full support following the incident at The Den.
The incident was formally reported after the final whistle and Derby County will remain in dialogue with Millwall club officials as they continue to liaise with the Metropolitan Police, who will now investigate the incident.
Millwall have confirmed in a club statement of their own that any individual found guilty of discriminatory abuse at The Den is issued with an immediate lifetime ban and also offered an opportunity to complete Millwall’s ‘Fan Diversity Scheme’ course.
Millwall have also restated their zero-tolerance policy against discriminatory abuse of any kind and is continuing its tireless efforts in this regard through the work of the Millwall Equality Steering Committee.
Derby County would like to place on record its thanks to Millwall Football Club for their assistance.
