TEAM NEWS…

Derby defender Phil Jagielka is a doubt after he missed Wednesday evening's 1-0 home win over Reading with a minor muscle injury. He will have his fitness assessed but if he is not available, Richard Stearman is likely to keep his place at the heart of the defence.

Striker Sam Baldock was replaced at half-time against Reading with muscle tightness and, like Jagielka, he will have his fitness monitored. Jack Stretton, who came off the bench to replace Baldock, could make his first league start after producing a lively display in the second half against the Royals.

Goalkeeper Kelle Roos is back after suspension, following his red card in the 1-0 loss at Sheffield United last weekend. Second-choice Ryan Allsop produced an impressive display against Reading in midweek, so manager Wayne Rooney has a decision to make when it comes to who starts between the posts.

Striker Colin Kazim-Richards remains out of action with an achilles injury sustained against Peterborough United in August.

Polish international midfielder Krystian Bielik, who suffered an ACL knee injury in January of this year, is making good progress in his rehabilitation work but is still not yet in a position to return to full training.

COACHING STAFF'S THOUGHTS…

Assistant Manager Liam Rosenior offered his pre-match views to RamsTV on Friday afternoon and he said:

“We one million per cent have a sense of responsibility and the manager has been outstanding in that regard.

“The message we give to the players is to ‘show who you are’. It is easy when things are going well to put a smile on your face and go out and play, but when things are tough you have to show your character and resilience.

“It is a true test of who you are. I cannot be any prouder of the players in how they’ve represented the club, while everyone around the place on the staff are supporting myself and the manager so we can do our jobs.

“It is a difficult time but in a strange way it is something I am quite proud to be a part of. I know in the future I will look back on this time and be proud of the people I have worked with.

“The most important thing is that we represent the club in the right way. Derby County will always continue and the fans are the most important and biggest part and we just want to make them proud, week in week out.

“The situation has brought us all closer together, every single member of staff, and the supporters have been magnificent.

“I think it is showing on the pitch how together everyone is and I hope we can enable that to continue. Out of a difficult and troubling time for the club, something special can develop after that.”

He added: “I’d be lying if I were to say it hasn’t been a difficult time and seeing people you work with scared to lose their jobs does put things into perspective.

“What I will say about football, and not just this club but throughout the world, is that it lifts people and everyone working at this football club have done it proud.”

FROM THE DRESSING ROOM…

Midfielder Jason Knight spoke to RamsTV on Friday after training and believes the Rams are on the right track to make Pride Park Stadium a fortress.

He said: “We managed to get a positive result on Wednesday and it was a great night all round too as I was back in the starting line-up.

“The fans were excellent as well, so it was nice to pick up another three points at Pride Park.

“It is important for us to make our home ground a fortress and that’s down to the players, and the fans well, to make that happen.”

He added: “It is important we focus on ourselves as a first-team squad and try to put results on the board despite everything that’s going on.

“We want to get good results for the fans and the club and that is what we will strive to do.”

MATCH OFFICIALS…

Andrew Madley will oversee Saturday's game at Pride Park.

Madley has overseen five games so far this season in all competitions, showing nine yellow cards and no reds in the process.

The Premier League official last took charge of a game involving Derby in February 2019, when the Rams were held to a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town under Frank Lampard.

Madley will be assisted by Scott Ledger and Richard Wild on the lines, whilst Sam Allison has been appointed as the fourth official.

EFL SUBSTITUTE RULES…

The five substitutions rule has been scrapped for the 2021/22 season, the English Football League confirmed in July.

The rule allowing clubs to make five changes, as opposed to the usual three, was brought in following football's restart in June 2020 after a break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Given that games had to be condensed into a short period of time it was thought beneficial and allowed managers to make as many as five changes in three intervals during a match.

Clubs had a longer post-break between seasons this time around and so the temporary rule has been changed.

Teams will be able to name seven substitutes but only use a maximum of three.

STREAMING INFORMATION…

With COVID-19 capacity restrictions lifted and EFL fixtures being played in front of full crowds once again, the temporary change in streaming rules is no longer valid.
