Derby County suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday evening with a late goal coming in the Sky Bet Championship clash.

The Hoops bagged the winning goal with two minutes left to play through a header by substitute Macauley Bonne. It was the Rams first defeat in four games after three consecutive 1-1 draws.

Derby had the ball in the back of the net early on, but after rolling the ball beyond R’s goalkeeper Semy Dieng, striker Martyn Waghorn was adjudged to be offside.

At the other end, Marshall was forced into action and pulled off a stunning save as he denied Scottish compatriot from close range.

We have seen the new Rams’ keeper make some great saves already this season, but his one seven minutes into the game was perhaps his best yet as his outstretched arm bent backwards to claw Lyndon Dykes’ looping header off the goalline.

On the 21-minute mark Ilias Clarke was played through looking to open the scoring. Matt Clarke spotted his run well, and just as the R’s man was about to pull the trigger, the Derby defender slid in to deflect the effort wide.

Ten minutes from the end of the half, the Rams’ best chance of the game came. A great ball from Kamil Jozwiak found Wayne Rooney’s forward run and the captain’s goalbound effort was palmed inches past the far post.

Derby started the second-half brighter and Rooney had another great chance that came even closer than his first. He struck a half-volley from 25-yards that crashed against the woodwork.

With just more than 15 left to play Derby, who had created more opportunities in the second-half and another good move got them close to opening the scoring.

Tom Lawrence found Jozwiak down the right side of the box, who looked to square to Colin Kazim-Richards moments after he came off the bench. Rob Dickie slid in before it could reach the striker for a tap in at the back post.

It was QPR who looked the most likely to grab the three points in the final ten minutes, and they did.

Dickie won the ball from Jozwiak in the middle of the park, and the Derby winger went to the ground. However, play continued for Dickie to send a cross to Bonne to head in two minutes from time.

The Rams will look to quickly recover ahead of the November international break when they host Barnsley on Saturday.
