Derby County midfielder Graeme Shinnie was frustrated to only pick up a point in the 1-1 draw against Bournemouth - but admitted it was a fair result as the points were shared at the Vitality Stadium.
The midfielder put Derby ahead after 14 minutes as he reacted first fter Wayne Rooney’s free-kick hit the wall and he managed to poke the ball beyond Asmir Begovic to give the Rams the early lead.
Derby defended well with Shinnie a constant ball of energy around the pitch, alongside fellow midfielder Jason Knight.
Goalkeeper David Marshall was also in fine form, making a number of superb saves to keep the Rams ahead.
However, Bournemouth did manage to find the leveller late in the game as Rodrigo Riquelme volleyed home from inside the box.
Derby did almost snatch a winner at the end as Lee Buchanan saw an effort heroically blocked on the line by Bournemouth skipper Steve Cook.
“I think if we are honest, overall a point is probably a fair result,” Shinnie admitted, chatting to RamsTV. “We did have chances, but they had the majority of the game in the second half especially.
“To draw after being 1-0 up in the closing stages of the game again is frustrating. We need the wins so there is a bit of frustration in there but we need to take the positives, take the point and move on. We have two home games coming up so we need to try and win those to push on.
“In recent games we have started well and performance-wise we have been good. It is about trying to get that second goal to give us a bit of comfort in the game and a bit of a hold in the game and deflate the opposition a little bit.
“The 1-0 scoreline is one that they can get back into the game from. It is frustrating, but we go again.”
Shinnie’s 14th minute strike was his first goal of the season and his third for Derby and he was pleased to open his account for the campaign.
“I was in amongst it and the ball came back in and I managed to hold off their players a little bit,” he said. “I just tried to put it towards goal as best I could.
“I think it took a bit of a deflection and took an eternity to actually hit the back of the net. I was delighted it hit the back of the net to put us 1-0 up. It was a good start to the game but frustrating not to hold on.”
In the final few minutes of the game, Buchanan’s goal-bound shot was cleared off the line by Cook and Shinnie feels luck is not on Derby’s side at the moment.
“How the guy has got it off the line at the end is unbelievable,” he admitted. “That is sort of the luck that we have not been getting. It is good defending but you’d rather it just hit the back of the net and we go home with three points, but it wasn’t to be.
“It was great defending and putting his body on the line. Lee hit it so well that if he scuffs it a little bit then it maybe goes somewhere else. He has got a clean strike of the ball and frustrating because I thought he was going to score, but it wasn’t to be.”
