Derby County Under-23s staged a superb late comeback to draw 3-3 against Manchester City in their first game of the new 2020/21 campaign.
With the Rams trailing 3-1 heading into the final four minutes of the game, Callum Minkley and Archie Brown scored to ensure Derby rescued a point on the opening day of the campaign.
Manchester City had raced into a two-goal lead courtesy of goals from James McAtee and former Rams Academy product Liam Delap.
McAtee converted from close range, whilst on 42 minutes, Delap’s used his pace to get beyond the defence and coolly finish to give the hosts a comfortable lead.
However, on the stroke of half time, Derby managed pull a goal back as Josh Shonibare reduced the arrears.
The Rams pushed for the equaliser but a stunning strike from McAtee, his second of the game, looked to put the game beyond doubt with 20 minutes left to play.
Derby continued to push and got their reward on 86 minutes as Callum Minkley converted from close range to make it a tense ending.
And the Rams completed the comeback with only two minutes remaining as Brown’s deflected effort ensured the points were shared on the opening weekend of the new campaign.
