TEAM NEWS…

Skipper Wayne Rooney is a doubt to face the Royals after missing last weekend’s Carabao Cup First Round tie against Barrow AFC with a muscle injury.

Midfielder Duane Holmes is doubtful with a muscle problem that he sustained against Barrow last weekend, while striker Martyn Waghorn is sidelined with a muscle injury and forward Tom Lawrence’s shoulder problem keeps him out of action.

Goalkeeper and summer signing David Marshall is set to make his Derby bow after returning from international duty with Scotland, which forced him to miss the Barrow game last Saturday.

Another new recruit, defender Nathan Byrne, is in line to make his Rams debut after arriving from Wigan Athletic on Thursday evening.

Polish international midfielder Krystian Bielik remains out of action with a long-term knee injury, but he is progressing well in his rehabilitation work.

PRE-MATCH THOUGHTS…

Speaking to RamsTV ahead of Saturday's game, Derby boss Phillip Cocu said: “I think that the players will be a little bit fresher for this game.

“Regardless of the opponent we faced last week in the Carabao Cup, in our schedule the first cup game was sort of part of the pre-season, because it was so soon after we started preparing for the season again.

“The set-up of training has been a little bit different this week than the week before, so players will be fresh to start."

More pre-match comments from Derby's manager, and goalkeeper David Marshall, can be found across dcfc.co.uk and also on RamsTV.

SUBSTITUTE RULES…

A temporary matchday rule was put in place for the final nine games of the 2019/20 season, following the resumption of the season after a three-month suspension, when it came to substitutes in games.

Clubs were allowed to make up to to five changes over the course of 90 minutes from a possible nine players.

This has now reverted back to the traditional three substitutions being allowed for the 2020/21 campaign, with seven substitutes permitted to be named.

GOAL LINE TECHNOLOGY…

Goal line technology is, once again, being used at all Sky Bet Championship matches during the 2020/21 season.

The system was introduced for the start of the 2017/18 campaign and is now entering its fourth full season in the division.

WHO’S THE MAN IN THE MIDDLE…

Darren Bond will be the man in the middle at Pride Park Stadium on Saturday.

Bond oversaw 35 games in total during the 2019/20 campaign, recording 116 yellow cards and two reds overall.

Over the course of last season, Bond was in charge of three Derby fixtures in the Championship. He oversaw the 2-0 home win over Middlesbrough in November, as well as the Rams' 1-1 draw at home to Fulham in February and the 2-1 loss at Cardiff City in July.

Bond will be assisted by Mark Russell and George Byrne on the lines, whilst Oliver Langford has been appointed as the fourth official.

BBG125…

Derby County’s home shirts for Saturday's game will be embroidered with a special BBG125 marque to commemorate 125 years since the club's first game as permanent tenants at their former home, The Baseball Ground.

The front of the Rams’ shirts will sport the marque in celebration of the anniversary, which officially falls on 14th September.

It was 1895 when the Rams permanently moved to the Baseball Ground. Record goalscorer Steve Bloomer scored a double against then league champions Sunderland to secure Derby a 2-0 win that afternoon.

The Rams enjoyed plenty of success at the Baseball Ground, notably in the 1970s as they lifted the First Division title in 1972 and 1975.

In the penultimate season before the Rams’ move to Pride Park Stadium, the stadium was rocking as a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace secured a place in the Premiership for the first time.

The Rams would eventually leave the Baseball Ground in May 1997 after securing their status in the top division for another season. They would still use the stadium until 2003 for training and reserve fixtures before it was eventually demolished soon afterwards to be replaced by housing.

And on Saturday, Derby’s current players will pay homage to the club’s former ground by sporting the BBG125 marque on their home shirts.

The club is also pleased to confirm that 125 Derby County 2020/21 home shirts have been produced with the BBG125 marque on the front and individual numbers on the left-hand sleeve, to go on sale on a first-come-first-served basis.

These are available to buy now at £125 each, with all proceeds going to the Derby County Academy.

STAY AT HOME…

Derby County is continuing to urge supporters to stay away from stadiums when matches are played, with the UK Government advice remaining the same relating to playing behind-closed-doors at this time going into the 2020/21 season.

Matches are still being played behind-closed-doors with the safety of supporters, club personnel and the frontline services remaining the principle priority at this time.

Consequently, supporters will not be permitted entry to any area of the stadium and extra security measures around the immediate area including car parks will be in place when staging matches.

Supporters are also urged to maintain social distancing guidelines and avoid congregating outside stadiums or gatherings to watch matches, as part of a new campaign message: ‘When we play, please stay away’ ahead of all EFL matches.

The club and the Derbyshire Constabulary are united in one message to fans - support the Rams and 'Watch From Home'..
