Attacking midfielder Louie Sibley has been named as the Derby County Scholar of the Season for the 2019/20 campaign.
The Scholar of the Season Award, presented by club partner Chasetown Civil Engineering, is the latest of the club’s annual awards - from Derby County Women, the Academy and first-team - to be unveiled over the coming days.
This accolade has been selected by Academy coaching staff members, headed up by Academy Director Darren Wassall, from the Rams’ first-and second-year scholars under the age of 19.
Sibley, who is 18, has enjoyed another positive season on the pitch and risen from the Academy ranks to becoming a first-team regular in the closing weeks of the campaign.
After making his senior debut last August in the Carabao Cup, his fine form for the Under-23s in the opening months of the season saw him presented with the chance to step up to Phillip Cocu’s first team squad.
Appearing for the Under-23s, and the Under-19s in their UEFA Youth League campaign, saw him produce consistent performances and the ability to create goalscoring opportunities for himself and his team-mates.
The youngster marked his first league start with a stunning long-range strike in Derby’s 3-0 home win over Blackburn Rovers in March, in what was the side's final fixture before the three-month suspension in the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
When the season resumed back in June, Sibley made his mark with a bang with a superb hat-trick as the Rams recorded a 3-2 victory at Millwall and he was subsequently nominated for the Championship’s Player of the Month award for June.
Sibley, who has been capped by England at youth international level, ended the 2019/20 season with 17 appearances and five goals to his name at first-team level.
